Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to form the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
